From Pretoria we head north through Botswana and Zambia, eastward across rolling landscapes into Malawi, where village life thrives along the roadsides. Riders descend the Golomoti escarpment, pause beneath Mount Mulanje, and unwind on the pristine shores of Lake Malawi, with sunsets, lake cruises, and snorkelling opportunities. Each day reveals something new — winding mountain passes, wildlife-filled plains, and the ever-present energy of Africa. The journey ends in Lilongwe, but the memories of two weeks on the open road, new friendships, and Africa’s wild beauty will stay with you forever.
Motorcycle enthusiasts from all over dream of exploring Africa — riding through its wide-open spaces, soaking in the raw beauty of its landscapes, and feeling the rhythm of life in rural villages. At Motorcycle Tours Africa we have created an exclusive 16-day African odyssey that delivers exactly that. This is not a trip about five-star hotels or fine dining — it’s about immersing yourself in the “real” Africa, where curious children wave you on, where you breathe in the scent of freshly tilled soil, and where silence stretches endlessly across the Savannah. It is here that the roar of the mighty Victoria Falls stirs your soul, and where the glow of an African sunset calms your spirit.
Our adventure begins in Pretoria, heading north to the Botswana border. Our first night is in Palapye before we continue to Nata, where we overnight in a remote tented camp set around a natural watering hole, regularly visited by elephants and other wildlife. From there, we ride to Kasane, traversing the eastern section of Chobe National Park — a road where encounters with elephants and other wild animals are not just possible, but likely. In Kasane we enjoy a sunset boat safari on the Chobe River, followed by a morning jeep safari into the park in search of more elusive game.
From Kasane we cross the Zambezi into Zambia. After completing border formalities, we ride to Livingstone — home of the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Here we soak up the views on a guided tour, enjoy a dinner cruise on the Zambezi, and have time for adventure activities such as helicopter or microlight flights.
The journey then takes us east across Zambia, from Livingstone to Lusaka and on to Chipata. The newly upgraded road winds through forests and rolling plains, offering excellent riding conditions and lively encounters with towns and villages along the way. From Chipata we ride to Mfuwe, on the edge of South Luangwa National Park, where we spend two nights on safari — one of the finest wildlife experiences in Zambia.
From Mfuwe we enter Malawi, descending the scenic Golomoti escarpment to Dedza. Malawi is alive with village life, roadside markets, and thousands of cyclists balancing incredible loads on their bicycles. We continue south to the Mulanje region, known for tea and tobacco farming, where we overnight beneath the towering Mount Mulanje. From there, we follow quiet back roads toward the Shire River, exploring “off-the-beaten-track”, rural Malawi.
Our last two nights are spent on the shores of Lake Malawi near Mangochi. This region, part of the Great Rift Valley, offers stunning sunsets, relaxing lake cruises, vibrant birdlife, and opportunities for snorkeling in the clear waters of Africa’s third-largest lake. The laid-back atmosphere is the perfect way to unwind after days on the road.
The tour ends in Lilongwe, where we return the motorcycles and prepare for our flight home. The ride back offers plenty of time to reflect on two unforgettable weeks — packed with adventure, wildlife, breathtaking scenery, and the warm hospitality of Africa’s people.
